Coughing only at night when i sleep?

so ive noticed that recently at night ive been coughing a lot ( like a choking kind of deep cough) non stop, to the point where i cant fall asleep. It does not feel like I am stuffed up at all and i think the cough is triggered by me lying down. could this be allergies? or is it a cold? thanks!
