I have an old pharmaceutical DVD player that wont play commercial dvd's. Is there a way to make it?

When I turn it on it shows the name of the company, not the brand of dvd player. Then when I put a dvd in it, it says "does not play commercial dvd's." Is there a way to reformat something to make it play them?
